Xtrial Barcelona 2022, Bou 4 of 4

  • Por José Alberto Rodríguez Blanco

With a great Raga who made it really difficult for him.

Four of four, Bou still doesn’t get off the top of the podium in this XTrial World Championship 2022 and the advantage over Raga, his main competitor, continues increasing race after race, being right now, when the equator of the championship has passed, a difference of 30 points with 44 points to be disputed, which if a misfortune doesn’t occur in the form of an injury that prevents Bou from scoring even in Andorra on October 8th, nor in the last race in France on October 21, where the Spanish rider will take his 16 indoor torch --I don’t write 31 world Championship because before the end of the Indoor World Championship, it will have finished the outdoor championship and he may have already achieved the 31st and then it will be his 32nd--.

Talking about the race at Sant Jordi, the first two riders who were eliminated would be precisely the last two who shared the podium with Bou and Raga in the previous two races, Toby Martyn in Chalon-sur-Saône and Gabriel Marcelli in Madrid, although this last one faced the Barcelona race with his foot broken because of the fall he had in the XTrial of Madrid the previous week. A lesson of pride and strength from Gabriel who even with that physical injury, he didn’t pass to the final for time, because his last "0" was for time in the Montesa area. Also, because both Haga and Bincaz, who were the closest to Marcelli's score, made a great job in their races with a high level in their phases through the areas.

First round ended with Raga 8 and Bou 9, which would give Adam an extra point, but Bou's claim on one foot, led the judges to take it into account and discount it, so both started the second round tied at 8 feet, but the extra point for the general classification was taken by Bou for having spent less time on his route.

After the first round where we have already said that Martyn and Marcelli were eliminated, the second round began to know who would be able to pass to the final with the almost sure Bou and Raga who were the ones who got the least points in the first round.

Haga and Bincaz, who started with 21 and 20 points respectively tried, but the ballast of the first lap was almost insurmountable even making a perfect lap, still the two young drivers gave everything to finish with 40 (Bincaz) and 42 (Haga), so everything was in the hands of Bou, Raga, Grattarola and Busto, who was the only one who had not yet managed to enter a final phase throughout the season and achieving 3 fourth places.

By the level seen in the first round, Raga and Bou, Bou and Raga seemed much more focused and willing to have a place in the final letting the remaining place to "play" between Busto and Grattarola. And in this case the grace of playing the final against Bou and Raga was, for the second time this season, for the Italian Matteo Grattarola who again left Jaime Busto with the honey on his lips. Bou got the first place in this second round and with it, again an extra point for the classification.

The final was really interesting and although Grattarola was quickly out of the game with 13 points in the first three zones and 11 points in the last three, the fight between the two greats was not decided until the last zone, the Montesa zone where Bou‘s "0" made him crown himself for the 15th time as King of the Indoor of Barcelona. Adam, who had turned 40 on Wednesday before the race, made it clear that age is not an obstacle for him and that means that he can never be ruled out until the last breath.

If yesterday was an immense joy for Arnau Farré's victory in Trial 2, what today has been a firecracker, since Álex Canales' victory has also been a great joy because seeing them from young people on a bike and how year after year to see their evolution, how they grow, their way of riding, their joys, their disappointments, their laughter, their tears and also the way they dealt with me, since they were "those crazy little ones" as Joan M. Serrat would say, shy that they are embarrassed to talk to someone older and in principle almost unknown to them until now that they are immersed in fights for a trial world championship.

Well, that's how I've seen practically most of the trial riders grow, and in this case, we are talking about Álex Canales and Gerard Trueba.

If the joy of Canales' victory is something that filled me, Gerard Trueba's first podium is even more exciting, and I say this because I still remember seeing him around the paddock with his trialsin bike, without missing a single movement of any rider, playing with everyone, or when he debuted with a bike in the CET and seeing how he was changing the chip from the bike to the bike, and the most shocking moment, when he decides to move to TR1 going directly from Junior or TR2, I don't remember the category he was in exactly and hearing the comments of many people in the paddock, censuring his decision and saying things that they must have regretted for how creepy they were.

Gerard went to TR1, he had a horrible time, yes, he had considerable "falls", yes, but HE NEVER STOPPED IN HIS EFFORT TO IMPROVE, and this first podium in the Trial2 World Championship is a reward for every fall, for every decision made, for every day of training and effort dedicated to what is his passion, trial and if you want me to tell you louder I can, because it is impossible to be clearer Gerard, YOU DESERVE IT CRACK, and I am infinitely happy for this podium that if it is a 3rd place, surely other higher ones will come and the victory, for sure.

Well, among them finished the British rider Billy Green and in 4th place Arnau Farré.

In TrialGP, Bou won again, this time ahead of Jaime Busto, who this time was able to beat Marcelli, snatching 2nd place on the podium. Adam Raga finished in fourth place.

The next appointment will be from June 14 to 16 in Valsassina, Italy.

I am really happy with the 100% of the victories of each and every one of the Trial riders in the World Championship because each one has their story, a story of overcoming, work, struggle, effort and above all love for this sport.

But in this case, Arnau Farré's victory in Trial 2 on day one of the Andorra World Championship, is an even more joy for the body because one knows first-hand and has lived from his beginnings until the fall from grace with his serious injury in the X-Trial of Barcelona, even what he experienced with the closure of Gas Gas and his disagreements with the brand, and so on until today, the great victory that places him a little more as a contender for the title, a title that should have been his for several years.

The 4th place achieved by Álex Canales, also positions him as a serious contender for the final victory. The rest of the Spanish riders or those defending Spanish brands, Pau Martínez 8th, Gerard Trueba 11th, Pau Dinares 13th, Marc Freixa 21st, the Mediser Trial Team rider Gaudi Vall 25th, Marc Piquer 26th, Mateu Crespi 33rd and Hugo Garrido DNF, had to withdraw.

In Trial GP, Bou continues on his inexorable path to a new title and again having his teammate, Gabriel Marcelli, getting a new podium but tied on points with Jaime Busto.

Great day for the Eldest of the Gelaberts, who did 4th, Matteo Grattarola 5th, Adam Raga 6th, Jorge Casales 7th (I'm very happy for you Jorge) and Aniol Gelabert 8th.

Tomorrow, day two, will surely be full of great battles in the "Land of the Pyrenees".

When we saw that in Teutschenthal it was starting to rain and creating a mess of mud instead of a circuit, I imagined how bad Jorge Prado had a time in the GG.PP. in Portugal and France where the mud caused the Spanish rider lose all the advantage and even the red plate that since then has been acting as a "Me-Me" between Gajser and Prado.

The qualifying round was defeated by the Honda rider, Gajser, followed by Prado, but in the race rounds, Prado showed himself superior to his rivals, signing a double that took him back to the head of the classification and returned his plate. leader red.

For her part, Daniela Guillen won the first round held on Saturday and was in 4th place on Sunday due to several falls and tying on points with the German rider Larisa Papenmeier who finished 4-1. Completing the podium was the "Red plate" Lotte Van Dunen who scored two third places.

Bou has won with authority the two days of the first round of the Trial World Championship held in Japan, but the surprise has been in the great performance of Marcelli (2-3) and the "dead or defenestrated" for the X-Trial, Adam Raga (3-2) who places second in the standings after the unstoppable Montesa/Honda rider.

Raga has done his job and he has done it in the best possible way and the best thing is that he has made those who thought he was already dead think about their actions before burying someone who neither deserves it nor is suitable for such tasks.

Equally shocking was the poor performance of Jaime Busto, who was supposed to be fighting with Bou at arm's length, and who had a weekend to forget.

In Women, the test has been dominated by Emma Bristow followed by an impressive Andrea Sofia Rabino who relegated the Spanish rider Berta Abellán to the third step of the podium on both days.

In trial 2, first day, the first two finishers were on electric motorcycles, Sondre Haga, the winner over Gas Gas followed by Gael Chatagno with an Electric Motion and leaving the Spanish rider Álex Canales in the third place.

For the second day of the category, Jack Peace was first, followed by the Spanish rider Álex Canales and Gael Chatagno, which has caused a triple tie at the head of the general classification between these three riders.

But the best thing about the day was the happy faces among the riders for not having to wait for a judge to count the riders' stops more or less quickly, for them to be aware of how to attack an obstacle and not whether they have stopped one or  two seconds, focus on giving a great show and not on being aware of whether they have stopped a lot or a little... summarizing, the riders have dedicated themselves to doing their job, not to speculating or being speculated on.

The next event of the World Championship will be in Andorra from June 7 to 9.

This weekend the world championship of the turn back will begin in Japan, that is, the World Championship as it should not have been modified when in the 2014 season, I think it was this one, when the FIM implemented the NON-STOP for (this It’s a thought of mine for many riders (more often called "off the record") to try to ensure that Bou and the Spanish riders didn’t dominate the trial in the overwhelming way that they were exercising.

Well, leaving aside the FIM's nonsense, I would like to thank them for turning back, even if it was almost 10 years later, and not interfering in the development of a sport that increasingly reaches levels of spectacle that few other sports motorcyclists arrive.

Japan will kick off and ahead there is an exciting world championship where we will see if Busto dethrones the King, if Marcelli manages to take that step forward that he has already shown in the X-Trial World Championship and if the one "defenestrated" in the indoor world championship , Adam Raga, slams the table and leaves those who wanted to finish him off with a "fool's face" long before that moment comes.

This past Sunday the first test of Drift Spain was held at the Jarama Circuit where the riders have pushed the machines to the limit and scrapped the tires that have finished 99.9% of them for drag.

The Pro category went to rider Jason Banet, who defeated Alex Gritti in the final, third place went to Joao Vieira.

While in the Semi-Pro, it was for the young Spanish driver Adrián Cabanillas, who can’t drive a car on public roads as he is not yet 18 years old, who beat Xavier Caballer in the final and third place went to Pedro García.

Cars with 300, 400 or 500 horsepower, there were even 850 that when passing by you skidding and burning tires made that smell of melted rubber enter your nostrils and transport you to the interior of the car that was competing.

The next test will be at the Miranda de Ebro circuit on June 29 and 30.
